Acrylic on canvas, 9"x12". I painted this piece about my miscarriage after going to a Jean Michael Basquiat exhibit at Contemporary Art Museum in Saint Louis, Missouri, winter of 2018. "Basquiat Before Basquiat East 12th street, 1979-1980. The exhibit highlighted his work during 1979-1980, before he achieved his status as a successful painter. There were even photographs of him "performing" in his apartment, taken by his friend Alexis Adler. Its was a really exciting experience because on one hand it feels almost like making a friend. That's what being there felt like to me, wandering around someones psyche, picking up clues. What is even more incredible about art in general, and his work specifically is that we see ourselves in it. His fans at least, I think we have that in common. I felt so inspired, and so I decided to take up painting as a new way to dissect my own mind and ideals and the world around me. Needless to say I fell in love with it.
