Papa Squatt//CryBaby
Papa Squat//CryBaby 🌷 9x12 paper collage.
This piece is about my feminine nature reawakening against a very protective masculine exterior. It’s about being Ogbanje, before I knew the word.
The figure in the middle is an Aztec God of death, I don’t have the book with me and want to make sure I get the name right. He’s holding Oguns machete. And in his belly there is I think an African fertility statue.
He is me. He is holding the innocence and prepared to protect it no matter what.
The fertility statue is me too. “She” wants
To get out. Feel all the things around them. Maybe to be a singer again. They both want that. You can see it because his feet are placed over a concert.
He wants to go home, where she leads but he is afraid. The comets around them is all the fear.
My lover was playing music as I worked and this song came on (swipe) just as I finished.
Crying and singing feel the same to my body. I listened to songs I made when I called myself “9” , I think that’s who is stirring in the belly. My old friend might be ready soon. Mm. Who knows. 🤷🏾🎩
